DIET & NUTRITION
A low-protein diet comes with challenges but there are resources available to help navigate your dietary needs.
When a metabolic disease results in the toxic buildup of an amino acid, doctors may recommend dietary restrictions to help reduce the amount of that particular amino acid in the body. For example, people with Arginase 1 Deficiency or Homocystinuria are frequently recommended to limit the amount of protein they eat to reduce the amount of arginine or methionine in their diet.
Managing a low-protein diet can be confusing and difficult to adhere to but there are resources available to help you with recipes, meal planning, food substitutions and more. In addition to the recipes and resources provided below, please visit the Make it Lo Pro YouTube and Instagram pages for more lower protein cooking and shopping videos.
